Percentage to Fraction

Enter a percentage and get the simplest fraction with the same value — 25% becomes 1/4, 12.5% becomes 1/8. Decimals and values over 100 work too, and the Serbian decimal comma is understood. Everything runs in your browser.

%

Fraction

1/4

A percentage is a fraction over 100, reduced to lowest terms. Runs in your browser.

How it works

A percentage is a fraction out of 100, so converting means writing the percent over 100 and reducing. 25% is 25/100, which cancels down to 1/4. The tool divides by the greatest common divisor to reach lowest terms.

Decimal percentages are handled by first turning the number into a fraction: 12.5% is 12.5/100 = 125/1000 = 1/8. Values over 100 give an improper fraction, also shown as a mixed number — 150% is 3/2, or 1 1/2.

Practical examples

25% to a fraction

25/100 reduces to 1/4. This and 50% → 1/2, 75% → 3/4 are the everyday ones.

A decimal percentage

12.5% is 125/1000, which reduces to 1/8. The tool handles the decimal automatically.

Over 100%

150% is 3/2, shown also as the mixed number 1 1/2 — useful when a value more than doubles.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a percentage to a fraction?

Write the percentage over 100 and reduce. 40% is 40/100, which simplifies to 2/5. The word “percent” literally means “per hundred”, so the denominator is always 100 before reducing.

What is 25% as a fraction?

1/4. 25/100 divides top and bottom by 25 to give 1/4. Likewise 20% is 1/5 and 75% is 3/4.

How do I convert a decimal percentage like 12.5%?

Treat the decimal as part of the numerator: 12.5/100 = 125/1000, which reduces to 1/8. The tool does this in one step, so you don’t have to clear the decimal by hand.

What about percentages over 100?

They give a fraction greater than 1. 150% is 150/100 = 3/2, which is also the mixed number 1 1/2. Percentages above 100 are perfectly valid — they just mean “more than the whole”.

Does it accept a percent sign and the decimal comma?

Yes. You can type 75% or just 75, and 12,5 or 12.5 — the percent sign is ignored and the comma is read as a decimal point, which suits Serbian input.

Why is my odd percentage giving a strange fraction?

Some percentages don’t reduce to tidy fractions — 37% is 37/100, and 37 shares no factor with 100, so it stays 37/100. That’s the simplest correct answer; not every percent has a “nice” fraction.

How does it handle repeating values like 33.33%?

If you type enough digits (33.3333…), it recognises the value as 1/3. With only a couple of digits it gives the exact fraction for what you typed, such as 3333/10000, since that’s what the number literally is.

Can I go the other way, fraction to percentage?

Not with this tool directly, but you can convert the fraction to a decimal with the fraction-to-decimal tool and multiply by 100. A dedicated reverse is a natural companion.

Is anything I enter uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere and analytics never receives it.
