Turn WebP images into PNG right on your device — the go-to choice when you need transparency kept and the widest possible program support. Unlike converting to JPG, PNG preserves the transparent background and every pixel exactly. Drop your files, download the PNGs, nothing is uploaded.
Converted PNG files will appear here with a size comparison.
How it works
Each WebP is decoded and re-encoded as PNG through the Canvas API. PNG is lossless and supports an alpha channel, so transparency in the WebP carries over intact and no further quality is lost. This is the difference from the WebP-to-JPG route, which would flatten transparency onto white.
Because PNG stores every pixel precisely, the file is usually larger than the WebP — that is the cost of lossless quality and full compatibility. Each file shows its before and after size so you can see the trade-off. There is no quality slider here: PNG has nothing to trade off.
Practical examples
A logo that must stay transparent
You have a WebP logo with a see-through background and need it in a tool that only reads PNG. Convert here and the transparency is preserved — dropping it onto any colored layout still looks clean.
An app that rejects WebP
A presentation app or document editor won’t import WebP. PNG is accepted virtually everywhere, so converting gets the image in without losing transparency the way JPG would.
A lossless base for editing
You’ll edit the image repeatedly. PNG keeps every save pixel-perfect, so converting the WebP to PNG first avoids the gradual softening that re-saving a lossy format causes.
Frequently asked questions
Why choose PNG over JPG when converting WebP?
Two reasons: PNG keeps transparency, and PNG is lossless. If your WebP has a transparent background or you need pixel-exact quality, PNG is right. If it is an opaque photo and you want a smaller, universally-opened file, JPG is the better target.
Is the transparency really preserved?
Yes. PNG supports an alpha channel, and the converter carries the WebP’s transparent pixels straight through. Nothing is flattened onto a background, unlike a conversion to JPG.
Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?
WebP uses modern, efficient compression; PNG is lossless and stores every pixel exactly, which produces bigger files for photographic content. You are trading size for compatibility and lossless quality — expected, not a fault.
Does the conversion lose any quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so the pixels of the WebP are preserved exactly. (If the WebP was itself saved lossily in the past, that earlier loss remains — but this step adds none.)
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. Disconnect after the page loads and it still works — no image data leaves your device.
Can I convert several WebP files at once?
Yes. Drop or select as many as you like; each converts independently and gets its own download button with a size comparison.
There is no quality slider — why?
PNG is a lossless format with no quality parameter to adjust. Every conversion produces the maximum-fidelity result automatically. Quality sliders only apply to lossy targets like JPG and WebP.
Will metadata be preserved?
No. Re-encoding through the canvas drops embedded metadata such as camera and location data — generally a privacy benefit when sharing images.
Is there a size or file-count limit?
No fixed limit. Because everything is local, the practical ceiling is your device’s memory rather than any server rule.
