Squared units grow by the square of the linear factor: since one metre is 100 cm, one square metre is 100 × 100 = 10,000 cm². One ar is exactly 100 square metres. The ar is a metric land unit still widely used here — a plot of "6 ari" is 600 m². The tool keeps it as its own unit so you never have to multiply by hand.
How big is a hectare?
A hectare is 10,000 m², which is 100 ares or a square 100 m on each side. It is the standard unit for farmland and larger plots; one hectare is about 2.471 acres.
How do I convert hectares to acres?
Multiply hectares by about 2.471, since one hectare is 10,000 m² and one acre is 4,046.856 m². Enter the value in hectares and read the acre row — the tool uses the exact factor rather than a rounded one.
How many square feet are in a square metre?
One square metre is about 10.7639 square feet, because one foot is 0.3048 m and the area factor is that squared. So a 50 m² space is roughly 538 ft².
Why is a square metre 10,000 cm² and not 100?
Area scales with the square of the length factor. One metre is 100 cm, so one square metre is 100 × 100 = 10,000 cm². This is the most common area mistake, and the reason the tool does the squaring for you.
What is the difference between an ar and an acre?
They are unrelated despite the similar name. An ar is metric — 100 m². An acre is imperial — 4,046.856 m², about 40 times larger. Both are in the list so they are never confused.
Does it handle the decimal comma?
Yes. You can type 6,5 or 6.5 and both mean six and a half. Thousand separators in pasted numbers are read too, so 1.234,5 is interpreted correctly.
