Cooking Measurement Converter

Enter an amount, pick the unit you have and the unit you want, and read the answer instantly — plus the same amount in every other unit at once. It converts the volume units recipes use: US cups, tablespoons, teaspoons and fluid ounces, alongside millilitres, decilitres and litres, plus the 250 ml metric cup. Everything runs in your browser.

How it works

Each unit is defined by how many millilitres it holds, and every conversion goes through the millilitre as a shared base. A US cup is 236.59 ml, a tablespoon 14.79 ml, a teaspoon 4.93 ml and a fluid ounce 29.57 ml. The metric cup is a round 250 ml — recipes here often mean this one, so it’s listed separately.

These are volume measurements, not weight. A cup of flour and a cup of honey take the same space but weigh very differently, so you can’t convert cups to grams without knowing the ingredient’s density. This tool deliberately sticks to volume-to-volume, which is exact; for grams, use an ingredient-specific chart.

Practical examples

A US recipe’s cup to millilitres

A recipe calls for 1 cup of milk — that’s about 237 ml, or roughly 2.4 dl on a measuring jug. Enter 1, from cup, to ml.

Tablespoons of oil to ml

3 tablespoons of oil is about 44 ml. Convert tablespoons to millilitres when you don’t have measuring spoons but do have a scale or jug marked in ml.

Decilitres in a local recipe

Recipes here often use decilitres — 2 dl of water is 200 ml, a bit under a US cup. Convert dl to cups to follow a foreign recipe with local measuring cups.

Frequently asked questions

How many millilitres are in a cup?

A US cup is about 236.6 ml; a metric cup is exactly 250 ml. This tool includes both — pick the “cup” or “cup (metric)” row depending on where the recipe is from. The difference is small but adds up in baking.

How many ml is a tablespoon?

A US tablespoon is 14.79 ml, commonly rounded to 15 ml — which is also the metric tablespoon and the usual size of a Serbian “kašika”. A teaspoon (kašičica) is 4.93 ml, rounded to 5 ml.

Can I convert cups to grams here?

No, and that’s deliberate. Cups measure volume; grams measure weight. One cup of flour is roughly 120 g but one cup of sugar is about 200 g, because they have different densities. Use an ingredient-specific table for weight.

How many tablespoons are in a cup?

16 US tablespoons make one US cup, and 3 teaspoons make one tablespoon. So a cup is 48 teaspoons. Handy when a recipe gives cups but you only have spoons to measure with.

What is the difference between a US cup and a metric cup?

A US cup is 236.59 ml; a metric cup is 250 ml, about 5.6% larger. Recipes from the US mean the smaller one; many European and local recipes mean 250 ml. The tool keeps them separate so you don’t mix them up.

Is a fluid ounce the same as an ounce?

No. A fluid ounce is volume (about 29.57 ml, US); an ounce is weight (about 28.35 g). They share a name but measure different things — this tool handles the fluid (volume) ounce only.

Are US and UK tablespoons the same?

Not exactly. This tool uses US customary spoons (tablespoon 14.79 ml, teaspoon 4.93 ml). A UK/Australian tablespoon can be 15 or 20 ml. For most cooking the few-millilitre difference is negligible, but it matters for precise baking.

Does it accept the decimal comma and fractions like ½?

It accepts the decimal comma (0,5 or 0.5). For fractions, enter the decimal — ½ cup is 0.5, ¼ is 0.25, ⅓ is about 0.33.

Are the values I enter sent anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser; nothing is uploaded and analytics never receives the numbers.
