Pick a start and an end date to see how many working days fall between them. Weekends come out first, then Serbian public holidays — including the moving Orthodox Easter block and the replacement day off when a state holiday lands on a Sunday. Everything is computed in your browser.

How it works
The tool walks the range one calendar day at a time. Each day is first checked against your work week (Monday–Friday, or Monday–Saturday if you sell or produce six days a week). Days outside it are counted as weekend days. What remains is then checked against the holiday list for every year the range touches, so a range crossing New Year picks up holidays from both years.
Serbian holidays come from a dated data file built on the Law on State and Other Holidays ("Sl. glasnik RS" 43/2001, 101/2007, 92/2011). Fixed dates are New Year (1–2 January), Christmas (7 January), Statehood Day (15–16 February), Labour Day (1–2 May) and Armistice Day (11 November). Easter contributes four moving days, Good Friday through Easter Monday, from the Orthodox computus. Victory Day (9 May) is marked in the law as a working holiday, so it never removes a working day here.
One rule catches people out: when a state-holiday date falls on a Sunday, the first following working day is also off. In 2026, 15 February is a Sunday and 16 February is already a holiday, so Tuesday 17 February becomes the replacement day — the tool adds it for you. Religious holidays (Christmas, Easter) are not shifted. A holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday is listed in the results but marked as already non-working, so it is never subtracted twice.
Practical examples
A two-week August holiday
From Monday 3 August to Friday 14 August 2026 there are 12 calendar days, 2 weekend days and no public holidays — 10 working days, which is what most employers deduct from annual leave.
Easter week 2026
Orthodox Easter falls on 12 April 2026. The range 6–17 April covers 12 calendar days with 10 weekdays, but Good Friday (10 April) and Easter Monday (13 April) are days off, leaving 8 working days.
Statehood Day and the Sunday rule
From Friday 13 to Friday 20 February 2026 there are 6 weekdays. Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 February are non-working (17 February replaces the Sunday that fell on 15 February), so 4 working days remain.
A whole year
1 January to 31 December 2026 gives 252 working days: 365 calendar days minus 104 weekend days minus the 9 holidays that land on weekdays. Four of 2026’s thirteen non-working days fall on a weekend anyway.
Frequently asked questions
Are Serbian public holidays included automatically?
Yes, and they are on by default. Uncheck the holidays box if you only want weekends removed — useful when you need a plain business-day count for an international contract.
Which holidays does the tool use?
The nationally non-working days: New Year (1–2 January), Orthodox Christmas (7 January), Statehood Day (15–16 February), Good Friday to Easter Monday, Labour Day (1–2 May) and Armistice Day (11 November), plus any replacement day the Sunday rule adds.
Why is 9 May not counted as a day off?
Victory Day is a state holiday, but the law states it is observed as a working day. Marking it non-working would inflate every leave calculation that crosses it, so the tool leaves it as a normal working day.
What happens when a holiday falls on a Sunday?
For state holidays, the first following working day becomes non-working. The tool finds that day even when the next day is itself a holiday, which is why 2026 gets 17 February off after 15 February fell on a Sunday.
Does the same shift apply to Christmas and Easter?
No. The shift rule covers state holidays. Christmas and the Easter block are religious holidays, so when they fall on a weekend no extra day is added.
Is the end date counted?
By default yes, because leave requests are normally written inclusively ("from 3 to 14 August" is 10 working days). Uncheck the box to count up to but not including the end date, which matches how deadlines are often measured.
Can I count a six-day work week?
Yes. Switch the work week to Monday–Saturday and Saturdays become working days, while a holiday on a Saturday then does remove one. Retail, bakeries and workshops in Serbia often need this.
How is the moving Easter date calculated?
With the Julian computus shifted into the Gregorian calendar — the same engine behind our Orthodox Easter calculator. In 2026 Orthodox and Western Easter coincide on 12 April; in most years they differ.
Which years are supported?
2012 through 2100. The Sunday-shift rule entered the law in late 2011, and applying today’s rules to earlier years would produce results that never happened.
Does it handle ranges that cross a year boundary?
Yes. Holidays are loaded for every year the range touches, so 29 December to 2 January correctly loses 1 and 2 January.
What about religious holidays for other faiths?
Catholic, Muslim and Jewish employees are entitled to their own holidays under the law, but those are personal entitlements rather than national days off, so they are not subtracted from the count.
Can I use this to check my annual leave?
It is a reliable count of calendar working days, which is how leave is usually measured. Your collective agreement or contract may add rules — shift work, part-time schedules or a company day off — that no calculator can see.
Does anything leave my device?
No. The dates you enter stay in the browser; the holiday rules ship with the page and nothing is uploaded.
